We apply regulated-level standards across regulated and unregulated care. Your checklist adapts to the services you offer.
- Everyone: photo ID, proof of address, right to work, enhanced DBS (children’s barred list), safeguarding training, childcare knowledge, two references and an interview
- Childminders: Ofsted registration, 12-hour paediatric first aid, EYFS, home safety & risk assessment, public liability insurance
- Nannies, prenatal & postpartum: verified relevant experience (e.g. newborn care)

Caregiver FAQs
Am I employed by UbuntuCare?
No — you work as an independent, self-employed caregiver. You choose your rate, hours and which bookings to accept. You’re responsible for your own tax (HMRC self-assessment).
How and when do I get paid?
Families pay through UbuntuCare when a booking is confirmed. After you mark the session complete, your 90% share is released to you in the next payout run.
Do I need insurance?
Childminders must hold public liability insurance. We strongly recommend it for everyone else and can point you to partner brokers.
What if I need to cancel a booking?
Give as much notice as possible through the app. Cancellations under 24 hours are reviewed, and repeated late cancellations can affect your account.
